A Message from LEAP founder JD Hokoyama
LEAP 2011 Year in Review |
|
The Board of Directors of Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP) today announced the unanimous election of Linda Akutagawa as LEAP's President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective November 1, 2011.
Akutagawa will succeed J.D. Hokoyama, who is retiring and will remain as President and CEO of LEAP through the transition.
"We are proud to announce the appointment of Linda Akutagawa as our next CEO as LEAP approaches its 30th anniversary," remarked Margaret Ashida, Chair of the LEAP Board. "Linda personifies LEAP's philosophy that leaders can retain their unique cultures, identities and values while developing new and vital skills that will make them effective leaders within their own organizations, their communities, and the broader society. She brings a unique combination of next generation vision, deep knowledge of API communities, and proven track record. We also thank J.D. for the powerful legacy of his timeless vision in founding LEAP, tireless leadership for the API community, and selfless commitment to a successful executive transition."
The selection process was based on a national search coordinated by LEAP's Executive Transition Committee, chaired by Ashida. |

New Leadership Research Series Report
2011 API Representation on the Top 100 Nonprofit Boards

As part of our long-term strategy on research of API representation in top leadership roles, the 2011 API Representation on the Top 100 Nonprofit Boards marks the fourth in a series of reports evaluating the inclusion of APIs at the highest leadership levels (Boards of Directors) in the corporate, foundation, nonprofit and education sectors.
In order to define the top 100 nonprofits, LEAP chose to focus its research on the largest U.S. nonprofits as ranked by The NonProfit Times on their most recent listing “The NPT 2010 Top 100” in the publication’s November 1, 2010 issue. To be included on the list, an organization must raise at least 10 percent of income from individual gifts. The revenue of these 100 nonprofits totaled $64.78 billion and ranged from just over $151 million for the smallest organization to over $5.8 billion for the largest nonprofit.

New Leadership Research Series Report:
2010 API Representation on Fortune 500 Boards

As part of our long-term strategy on research of API representation in top leadership roles, the 2010 API Representation on Fortune 500 Boards marks the third in a series of reports evaluating the inclusion of APIs at the highest leadership levels (Boards of Directors) in the private, foundation, nonprofit and education sectors.
In 2010, the Fortune 500 collectively generated more than $10 trillion in revenue (more than 2/3 of the total U.S. GDP), employed nearly 25 million people (roughly 1/6 of the U.S. labor force) and contracted with tens of thousands of suppliers across the United States. LEAP’s 2010 API Representation on Fortune 500 Boards shows that despite the burgeoning population and the recent consumer market growth, APIs remain largely absent from corporate boards. 80.4% of the Fortune 500 companies lack API representation in their boardrooms. Only 2.08% of Fortune 500 board seats are held by API directors. In contrast, APIs constitute 5.6% of the U.S. population and its buying power is expected to grow 42 percent from $544 billion in 2010 to $775 billion in 2015, according to the Selig Center for Economic Growth.
